Calendar of Events

Thank you for joining Fruitlands at the 25th anniversary for Concord Band!

Continuing at Fruitlands through November, 2010 is sculptor Joseph Wheelwright’s astonishing Tree Figures installation, featuring eight monumental, lifelike figures, created from actual trees. With their own distinct personalities the figures are carefully sited throughout the property and greet the visitor in grand style.

Fruitlands Museum is proud to present For the Birds: Art from the Mass Audubon Collection. Exhibit opens April 11 at a gala reception and continues through November 15, 2010. The exhibit includes awe-inspiring original elephant-folio (large format) engravings and copper plates by John James Audubon, etchings by Alexander Wilson —Audubon’s predecessor who described and depicted American birds—plus works by American impressionist Frank Weston Benson, Andy Warhol’s eye-popping serigraph, Bald Eagle, and work by Charley Harper, the witty and wise “minimal realist.” Among the most exciting artwork on view are watercolors by legendary bird artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes, plus a variety of paintings by renowned watercolor artists Robert Verity Clem of Chatham and Lars Jonsson of Sweden. Also included are delicate miniature carved birds by 20th century artist Allen James King, along with remarkable works by Larry Barth, widely acclaimed as the foremost bird sculptor and 10-time Ward World Champion Carver.

Fruitlands Museum is pleased to introduce the 2010 Artist-in-Residence, Barry Van Dusen. His exhibit, Flights of Discovery: The Avian Art of Barry Van Dusen, opens at an artist's reception on April 18 and continues through November 15, 2010. Van Dusen is an internationally recognized wildlife artist whose articles and paintings have been featured in Bird Watcher’s Digest, Birding, and Birder’s World magazines. He has illustrated a variety of natural history books and pocket guides in association with the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
