Transitions!

As we look back on 2006, we celebrate a year of marked improvement and outreach. Not only did we complete major construction, but we expanded our educational outreach, partnered with many organizations and began restoring a meadow!

Last year Fruitlands joined with the American Association of Museums in recognizing 2006 as the Year of the Museum by collaborating with many museums and organizations. Our partners, supporters and friends allowed us to offer monthly Sundays at Fruitlands (KIDS Free) and Community Treasures programs. People enjoyed restorative Wellness Retreat while others learned about taverns at our fall open house. We hosted an exhibition drawn from Harvard Historical Society’s landscape collections, the Apple Harvest Ramble Grand Prix Race and the construction of buildings by students from the North Bennet Street School.

After successfully navigating a year of challenges and finding new opportunities along the way, 2007 is a time of transition to reflect and look forward to the future together. With our landscape green once more, Fruitlands will host a special exhibition of White Mountain landscape pantings. Staff will be "on the road" with outreach to town libraries and schools, sharing Shaker heritage and archaeology.

Popular programs return with sundown concerts and a repeat of So-Long to Summer. Watch for news about student performances of Love Letters, a Native American weekend this autumn and our first poet-in-residence.

Today Fruitlands is a vital part of community life - providing opportunities for exploring ideas and connections. It is a welcoming place for looking, making, thinking, and reflecting. As we begin our 93rd year, we invite you to savor Fruitlands anew.
