Good Neighbor Noise Control

Our Commitment to Neighbors - Noise Control

Sitting atop Prospect Hill in Harvard, MA, Fruitlands encompasses more than 200 acres that have been shaped by the many generations who have passed through, hunted, worked, farmed and changed the land once known as the “valley of the Nashaway.” This historic landscape offers unparalleled views and provides an inspirational backdrop for programs, events, gatherings and celebrations that build memories of both family and community. A National Landmark and Historic District, the Museum explores the ideas of some of America’s most original thinkers and reformers including the Alcotts, Shakers, Native Americans, artists, and more.

The Museum staff and board are committed to preserving the integrity of our operations and the rights of our neighbors to peacefully enjoy their property and the rural integrity of their homes. While music and entertainment is a very important aspect of any gathering, reception, or event, we require all who use Fruitlands’ spaces and grounds to abide with the following noise control guidelines. We do this so help you to better understand and accept the responsibilities associated with our commitment to our neighbors.

Noise Control Guidelines
1. The determination of acceptable levels of music and noise shall be at the discretion of Fruitlands Museum, Inc.
2. No noise, music or announcements caused by Fruitlands Museum or its guests will be allowed to become a source of discomfort for any of our neighbors. Fruitlands Museum will promptly respond to all formal complaints brought to its attention and take swift and corrective action to address the source of such complaint.
3. Fruitlands Museum is committed to being a good and responsible neighbor in the Town of Harvard and commits to working closely with town officials to achieve that end. Any police action taken on the Fruitlands Museum premises due to noise complaints will receive immediate corrective action. Any second visit by local officials for the same issue will result in the shutdown of the source of such noise without question. Any security deposit on file will be forfeited for such infraction.
4. Musicians/music will be monitored at least 1/2 hour before each event to establish sound levels compliant with these terms.
5. Acceptable noise levels will be continuously monitored, and adjusted, during the event to insure acceptable levels are maintained at all times.
